Не факт про котелки. В XIX веке еду готовили сами солдаты - артелью в несколько человек. И вполне себе спокойно хлебали из одного котла. И всемирный разум подсказывает, что индивидуальные котелки появились в ПМВ, но лишь в кайзеровской армии.
